About the Iconographer

Born in Egypt in 1968, Mr. Guirguis (George) Boktor is an Egyptian Christian iconographer and artist who specializes in Neo Coptic Art. He was hand-picked to study at the Institute of Coptic Studies, Cairo. There he trained as an apprentice of the esteemed Dr. Isaac Fanous who revived traditional Coptic Iconography. Mr. Guirguis spent five years working and teaching under Dr. Isaac Fanous in Egypt. Afterwards, Dr. Isaac Fanous chose him to accompany him to the United States to work on several Coptic Churches in California.

Mr. Boktor has painted many churches and cathedrals worldwide. Some of his commissions in the United States include:

  • The dome at St. Mina's in Holmdel, New Jersey.

  • St. Mary's in Seattle, Washington.

  • St.George church in Seattle, Washington.

  • St. Mary & St. Abraam's in St. Louis, Missouri,

  • St. Mina & Pope Kyrillos' in Torrance, California.

  • St. Verena Church in Anaheim, California.

  • St. Mary of Egypt in Newhall, California.

  • Holy Virgin Mary in Pasadena, California.

Mr. Boktor periodically lectures at universities in Egypt and teaches icon painting courses in Egypt and the US. He mentors many iconographers worldwide. He has been a guest on multiple Christian channels discussing Coptic art and heritage.

Mr. Boktor's main focus is working on Coptic churches and cathedrals and is available for commissions. He interests are iconography, domes, murals, stained glass, and mosaics.
